Regarded as one of the fashion epicentres of the world, north Italian city of Milan is also renowned for it's shopping, it's night-life, and it's status as the financial capital of Italy.  Milan is one of the best places to see Italian Renaissance and Baroque art - the Pinacoteca di Brera, Poldi Pezzoli Museum and Pinacoteca Ambrosiana are all famous for their collections - and to take in a wide range of architectural styles (the Duomo is Gothic, the Saint Ambrose Church is Byzantine, the Saint Maurice is pure Renaissance, whilst the Cimeterio Monumentale and La Rotonda are both neoclassical).  Saint Mary of the Graces is home to Leonardo Da Vinci's 'The Last Supper', whilst the La Scala opera house has been the stage for some of the world's most famous performances.  Meazza Stadium (San Siro Stadium) is where some of the most nail-biting football matches are played (AC Milan and FC Internazionale are both based in Milan).  Outside of Milan there are several breath-taking spots to visit - Lake Como lies directly to the north on the SS36; the dual-city of Bergamo to the north-east off the A4, whilst Turin and Genoa are easily reachable on the A4 and A7 motorways respectively.

There are several airports in the Milan area, the largest being Malpensa International (the other two, Linate and Orio al Serio, are reachable by shuttle bus from Malpensa).  Malpensa is an incredibly busy terminal that sees close to twenty-four million passengers annually, and is visited by airlines such as British Airways, Fly Be, Easy Jet and Thomas Cook.  Car hire is recommended for exploring the wider region - Avis and Europcar operate out of both terminal 1 and 2, whilst Budget, Thrifty, Sixt, Hertz and others are located in terminal 1.
